Like any situation there are always the what if's, these mearly demonstrate some posibilities for the given senario.

Of course they wont work in every senario but they give you some options for the ones displayed..

Beside the fact already mentioned that a firearm is a ranged weapon and that these skills are useless beyond 4 feet, is the fact that this is seriously staged and closer to a dance routine then Mr instructor would likely admit.

Need I even mention the exploitation of a stereotype in the choice of sparring partner? I think I should given that most military and law enforcement types seem to carry themselves as if they were from (if they aren't actually) the south.

Some skills are more valuable than others, remember, every body sleeps and mean people suck.

This is for street-typical situations where someone is perhaps trying to rob you or what not where the person probably does not intend to use that gun but may. It's for the situations where the person HASN'T been trained in anything in particular or if they have, they've momentarily seemingly forgotten it all. Either way, it is NOT uncommon for people to be robbed/mugged at gun point. It is much less common for people to be robbed/mugged by a sniper or someone with an m16 standing a tactically sound distance away.

As for his choice in partner, I think it was a good choice. It plays on stereotypes which is bad (the stereotype) but the idea that that stereotype, itself, represents, the unstoppable force towering above you with the ability to kill you on a moments notice, is perfect for how small the instructor is. When I was in judo and we did demonstrations, I, a fairly tall, athletically built male, would get partnered with Cami, the small, weak looking girl. Why? Because then during the demonstration all of my techniques would be effortless take downs to show that I don't need strength to do any of this. Her's were all over-exaggerated brutal throws and whatnot to show that little ol' her can takedown big ol' me without breaking a sweat and to grab attention in doing so. It's the same concept here. You play on stereotypes to make examples, doesn't mean you feed into that. The partner in this video was probably a well respected member of whatever dojo they work at and probably OFFERED to help in this video.

With that said, I think these techniques are great. In judo I was taught some from the beginning of this video but the midde to the end were all new to me and I look forward to trying them. Thank you for posting this video.

See the bad thing about showing this is that when you train like that your more likely to get killed for real. Of course if he puts a moron in front of you with no desire to kill you of course you might take the gun away but i dont recommend it for real. If they do wanna simulate that for real then at least get a paintball gun and see if he can take the gun away before he gets shot in the head wont kill him but it will hurt like hell thus sticking those worthless piece of crap moves in his own ass. In real life a real criminal WOULD NOT WAIT FOR YOU TO DO SOMETHING, and if by a miracle you got a hold of his hand HE WOULD NOT JUST LET YOU DO WHATEVER YOU WANT WITH HIM he would definitely fight back. Reserve this crap for the movies.

I suggest that if you get mugged at gun point the best thing to do is to give them what they want no material thing should be worth your life. The only time I or anybody should try this is if you were a prisoner of war and they put a gun to your head and you knew 100% that they were going to kill you then i would try s*** like this, although you will still be killed 100% at least i would go down fighting but again is not going to save your life.

This would get you shot. You cannot move as fast as a gun can be reaimed, especially at such close range. The best way to deal with a gun is to get control of the barrel. Controlling the barrel is controlling the gun. This is especially true with handguns, where you can actually stop the handgun from firing, if you have the barrel (you might smash, or even break a finger, but it's better than you or people around you getting shot).

I've read a few of the comments - I've studied a fair amount of close quarters combat, even some of the teachings the legend himself Fairbairn has passed down. Then about 20 years of hand to hand martial art - As another poster said, it's more or less guaranteed that unless you have had extensive training and posess excellent dexterity, at that range you wouldn't have time to think of these techniques unless day after day they are drilled into you. Trying something like this, regardless of the situation without that sort of training and intimate knowledge of the small movements you can barely see demonstrated in the video. You would un-doubtably end up with a new hole. On the plus side, cool video. Perhaps a little pretentious but still interesting to watch and see another 'style' in action.

In reality, in ALL of these cases with the guns, the guy with teh gun would have time to shoot the ninja-awsome dude. It looks cool, but the INSTANT you move your hands, you're shot - think about how far you're hands have ot go to move the gun at all, and thinka bout how little the finger on teh trigger does. Graned, it takes a tiny fraction of a second to process that you're moving, but not quite lone enough.

also, if somebody wants to point a gun at you, they're NOT GOINT TO STAND RIGHT f***ING BEHIND YOU.
